Dikshithar suspended after luxurious wedding held at Temple
Pattu Dikshithar has been suspended after luxurious wedding took place inside the mandapam of the famous Chidambaram Natarajar Temple creating violation against its traditional rules.
During Aani and Margazhi seasons, it is a usual affair to perform poojas for lords Nataraj and Sivagami Ammal at 1000 pillar mandapam in the temple premises. And then, public will be allowed to worship the god. It is a rule that no private events or marriages should be allowed inside the mandapam.
However, on 11st August 2019, a wedding of Sivakasi based Sivagami with Chennai based businessman Siddharthan took place inside the mandapam violating the rules. It was a lavish wedding affair as their families are into business world.
The whole mandapam was decorated with luxurious stuffs and cushion chairs were placed for guests in the wedding. Delicious foods were also arranged for guests after the wedding. As many devotees witnessed this event while visiting the temple, they raised doubts how the wedding was allowed inside the mandapam by Dikshithars.
While responding to public, Pattu Dikshithar simply said, “The wedding happened because of Lord Natarajar’s blessings towards the bride Sivagami; That’s all I could say!”. Soon after, the meeting of Pothu Dikshithar committee was held and the committee decided to suspend Pattu Dikshithar.
Meanwhile, Pattu Dikshithar apologized for his act infront of Pothu Dikshithar committee. It is said that the duration of his suspension will be decided in the next meeting of the committee.
